Monday sounded like a perfect day so I rounded up Grandma and Grandpa and we set out for the Lewiston woods with a carload of wildflowers and perennials to plant along the trails. We took a little side trip to Carley State Park on the way and ate subs we picked up in Plainview.
After lunch we took a short wildflower walk along the river to see the Bluebells which are a hallmark of Carley. Fisherman were along the river trying to catch some of the trout that a visitor had just seen added to the river. She said a large truck backed up to the bank and dumped them in. Then they all swam around in a big circle for a bit before heading for cover. Then is was on to the Lewiston woods.
Spring beauties and anemonies abound there and wild onion folliage is everywhere. A few ferns are showing up and we found 3 yellow trout lillies. Some bluebells and scilla transplanted there a few years ago seem to be doing well. These are all on the top part of the land. We didn't make it down into the river valley where there's a greater variety of wildflowers. Have to get back there within the next week to take that in. Before we got at planting I put Grandpa to "work" doing what he loves best - building a campfire. Then we set out and found the perfect spots for our transplants.
The last thing we did was plant a baby white pine tree, the offspring of the big pine outside our bedroom window. If you look hard you can see it between my hands about the size of one of my gloves. I want to have something there from home that will tie the two places together for a looooong time. We took fenceposts to hold a wire cage in place around it to protect it from deer. We ended our play/work day with S'mores - traditional ones, Mindy. No apples!

Here are some cloud pictures from today.
I got off work early (like in daylight) and I got some pictures of some pretty cool thunderheads. They seemed to be on every horizon. It really poured in Rochester earlier but at home we just got a nice shower Alan says.

So, until next time.......
